The Gottman Method aims to disarm conflicting verbal communication; increase intimacy, respect, and affection; remove barriers that create a feeling of stagnancy, and create a heightened sense of empathy and understanding within the context of the relationship.

A Certified Gottman therapist has completed one of the three levels of the Gottman Training program and 300 hours of experience as a couples therapist.
The Gottman method is comprised of a three-session assessment - including individual interviews and an extensive questionnaire to assess how your relationship compares to the presentation

The Gottman method is comprised of a three-session assessment - including individual interviews and an extensive questionnaire to assess how your relationship compares to the presentation of the "Masters and Disasters" of relationships.
Sessions are weekly and 90 minutes to effectively process what has been raised in the session and to reduce instances of "flooding" and conflict once the session has ended. They are highly structured and experiential.

The Sound Relationship House (SRH) theory forms the empirical basis for Gottman method couples therapy. Based on John Gottman’s research that began in the 1970s at the University of Illinois and then at the University of Washington, Gottman’s lab was one of the first labs to employ systematic observation to determine if there were patterns of behavior in relationships that could discriminate happy from unhappy couples (Gottman 1994). The results from Gottman’s lab, in collaboration with colleague Robert Levenson, led the researchers to discover that they could predict divorce with over 90% accuracy.

I've been a Licensed Professional Counselor for 30+ years working in a variety of clinical settings. I'm an analytical realist as well as unpretentious and empathetic, often reminding couples we are "observing" rather than "judging" as I've seen too many individuals and couples self-sabotage their own happiness due to "Stinkin' Thinkin'.
I have worked with many indiividuals and couples, and what separates those who benefit from therapy are the people motivated and courageous enought to peek into their blind spots, and as well as committed to learning from sometimes painful trial and error experiences of being human. I feel honored to lead people through this powerful process.
As a Certified Gottman Therapist I offer a very structured and transparent couples counseling experience. Sessions are 90 minutes giving us time to fully examine and process specific grid-locked issues and regrettable incidents, and to reduce the experience of criticism, defensiveness, stonewalling and contempt which can derail couples at home.
